Project Description
Quick start guides are a versatile medium. They are created in a variety of
formats and range in size from a one page poster to a multi-page book. Nevertheless, the aim of a quick start guide in the computer industry is to briefly convey essential information about a particular piece of software or hardware.
This quick start guide demonstrates the most important features of RoboHelp HTML for users who want to start using the program quickly. It was not designed to teach the user to use RoboHelp; instead, it highlights only the basic features of the program, such as saving, printing, and organizing topics.
Project Strategies
I wanted to focus on the most basic components of RoboHelp for this project. However, RoboHelp’s complexity made it difficult to sum basic features in only a page or two. I decided to use a small booklet format for my quick start guide because it would allow me to cover all of the necessary information for starting a project in RoboHelp HTML.
My quick start guide organization was task-oriented, chronologically leading users through each step of the process. At the beginning of the guide, the user opens a new project, while they generate their project at the end. I also felt that placing the tasks in chronological order would help users locate necessary information later. Since quick start guides aim to accomplish a lot in a very small amount of space, I also used a lot of images and screen captures to orient the user.
